John Fink is currently a media/sales/business/leadership consultant. His “Think About It” editorials have run in MidWeek every week starting in October, 2019. He is the author of the 2020 compilation of his “Think About It” editorials, which aired for over 19 years in Hawaii on KFVE-TV (20000-2019) and also aired (from 2000-2009) on KHNL-TV (NBC) in Hawaii.
In early 2019, John retired as Vice President/General Manager of KFVE- TV, Honolulu, HI., ending a 37 year career in the local TV business in Hawai`i. He then went on to become President/CEO of Aloha United Way from June, 2020 through early 2025.
John began his media career with a short stint in public relations for a local pro soccer team (Team Hawaii in the North American Soccer League, which left after one season for Tulsa), and then spent four years at radio stations KIKI/KMAI as Sales Manager and Music Director. After a four-year salesperson stint at KGMB (CBS Hawaii) he moved to KHNL in 1986. KHNL began its partnership with KFVE in 1993.
John is a graduate of Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT., where he received a bachelor’s degree in East Asian History. Along with his work career, John has been or remains active on numerous, local non-profit boards and/or committees, including the St. Francis Healthcare System, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Hawaii, the Aloha Stadium Authority, Aloha Festivals, the Hawaii State Junior Golf Assn., the Hawaii Bowl, ‘Ahahui Koa Ānuenue, the Hawai`i Visitors & Convention Bureau, and the Hawai’i Council on Economic Education.
In 2025, John worked with both the University of Hawai`i Athletics Department and the Hawai’i Bowl/ESPN Events in an advisory capacity. John has emceed and spoken at hundreds functions and fundraisers throughout the past 40+ years and continues to help out when asked.
